Sing Omaha

CantatE ~ East & West

Cantate is a ‘traditional’ children’s choir for singers in 4th–7th grade, which focuses on proper vocal production and strives for a unified ensemble sound.

Students will have the opportunity to learn music in many different languages and styles. Cantate also places a strong emphasis on sight-reading and hearing harmony.

ABOUT THE DIRECTORs

Tyler Hottovy ~ Cantate West

Tyler graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in Music Education. He earned a Master's degree in Music from UNL in 2009, and he is currently teaching music at Norris Elementary in the Millard Public Schools.Tyler also serves as the Music Director at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bellevue, and assists with the Millard South Marching Band.

He enjoys giving trombone lessons to students of all ages, and performs as a singer with Sing Omaha's professional adult choir, "Canticum".

Jennifer johnson ~ Cantate east

Jennifer Johnson joins Sing Omaha this year as the director of Sing Omaha Cantate East. She has been an Elementary Vocal Music Specialist with Bellevue Public Schools since 1993. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at Leonard Lawrence Elementary, she is the District K-6 Vocal Music Consultant. During her time at Leonard Lawrence, she has started the Leonard Lawrence Bell Choir, which was selected to perform at the Nebraska Music Educators Conference in November of 2008. Jennifer is also a co-founder and co-director of the 'Saturday Chorus Program' and has received the Bellevue Public Schools Champions for Children Award.

Jennifer is an alumni of Wayne State College, where she received her BFAE degree in 1992. At WSC, she studied piano with James Day, organ with Maestro Antony Garlick, and conducting with Dr. Cornell Runestad. She was also a member of the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers that toured Europe in 1988 and 1990. Additionally, Jennifer has completed her Kodaly levels and earned her Kodaly Certification at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2000.

Jennifer has also been a church organist since the age of 14, most recently at Thanksgiving! Lutheran Church in Bellevue. She also serves as a Worship Assistant and fills in for the Joyful Noise Bell Choir.
